Costa Rica is more open to tourism: foreigners will be able to enter without health insurance.

The tourist authorities of Costa Rica announced that as of April 1, foreigners not vaccinated against Covid-19 who wish to enter the country will not have to present a health pass or take out medical insurance. The Costa Rican Government also announced the cancellation of the vehicle restriction

The measure is given in order to promote tourist activity, to which is added the cancellation of the vehicle restriction.

“The growth of tourism as we have experienced in recent months comes from two topics: first, due to the important position of the country as a safe destination and second, due to measures such as those taken today, which effectively give the signal of a country that it handles the pandemic correctly”, said the Minister of Tourism, Gustavo Segura at a press conference.

The announced measure comes a few days after the Immigration authorities and businessmen in the tourism sector stated that the review of the health pass would cause huge lines at the country’s airports and border points, representing a nuisance for travelers.

As part of these measures, the authorities also reported that as of March 7, nationals entering the country will no longer have to present the health pass and the vehicle restriction will be eliminated.

According to statements by the Minister of Health, Daniel Salas, this decision was made jointly, thanks to the decrease in the statistics of Covid-19 infections, although they call on businessmen in the sector to continue promoting the use of masks in places closed, hand washing and temperature taking.

“We are with a mentality of activating the economy and moving forward responsibly. We always talk about progressive but responsible reactivation; This is not the time to stop wearing the mask,” Salas warned.

Costa Rica is a country with very high tourism potential and this 2022 has been located in the best positions of the countries to vacation worldwide.

In 2021, Costa Rica received 1.3 million tourists, which represented a recovery of 50% of the tourism that entered the country each year before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to data from the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT).
